Signs of Spring

I'm thrilled.  Finally some flowers have peeked their little heads out.  This gives me hope that the weather will start to get warmer and I can finally shed these darn turtlenecks.  Ha-ha!

A special e-mail

I just ran across a very special e-mail from a friend of mine.  This is what he wrote:

I was just thinking about how hard the road is for flowers to bloom in the desert.  In that harsh environment with all that heat coming down on them, they manage to wait for that one little drop of water and then they burst out their blossoms and bring color to a very dry and dull place.  You are that desert flower.  You have weathered  the heat of the desert and are getting that refreshing drink of life and you are showing how brilliant your blossoms are.

I got this e-mail in Feb. 2012 when I was going thru radiation treatments.  It meant so much to me and I'm so glad I found it again.  I plan to organize all my inspirational letters, e-mails, notes, cards, and make a scrapbook of my journey.  I look back at this blog and I can't believe that I, Jennifer went through 8 months of hell.  I am so glad I survived and I'm so happy to still have the support of each and every one of you.

Thanks Chris!
XOXO

Our wonderful community holds an Easter egg hunt for the kiddo's.  Unfortunately, it was CHILLY out this morning.  I love dressing Cody up for the holidays but the whole jacket thing is ruining my hard work.

Pink Sisters Brunch

What a nice day for a brunch.  And what's so nice about it?  Meeting up with my pink sisters.  It was nice to chat with them but since we met at Clyde's we were stuck at a table.  And when ever brunch is involved, there's more eating and less talking although it took the kitchen a while to make our order so we did talk and laugh.

Again, different ladies in different stages.  2 had wigs on, 1 had the beginnings of a pixie and I myself was sporting a longer do than last year this time when we all met up.  It's neat to see how everyone changes, how everyone kind of gets back to the way they looked before.  I am so looking forward to that.  Just want to feel like me again.

I enjoyed my visit with all of them.

Shopping for T-ball stuff...

It's so funny.  Timing is everything and go figure this weekend when the boys are away, I get an e-mail from Cody's coach telling me what I need to buy for T-ball.  I was under the impression that I wouldn't really need anything but I should have known since we did have to go out and buy a few things for flag football why wouldn't I need something for T-ball too.

So the things I had to buy:
black baseball pants
black socks
glove - Got it
cleats (optional - not football - which of course we already have)
cup (what the?)

So Dick's sporting goods was having a huge baseball sale.  So I got my coupons and headed out.  Now here's the fun part about Virginia.  There's a Dick's about 5 miles from my house.  But do you think that was the location that had the sale?  NOPE!  It was the Fair Lakes location which was about 19 miles from my house.  Now....do I shop near my house and pass on the coupons (extra 15% off plus $10 off if you spend over $25.00) or do I drive to the local Dick's, saving time but not getting the extra discount??  Humm......well, since I'm a shopper I opted for the Fair Lakes location.

Jumped in my car and headed out and let me tell you everyone from Loudoun County was there.  It was madness!!!  And me being a girl who has never purchased boy T-ball stuff before was clueless.  There were dad's and son's everywhere.  I felt really out of place.  But I wasn't going to let this get in my way.  I had a list of things to buy and I was going to buy them.  All of them and 2 of them.  So I ran over to the pants and grabbed both small and Xsmall.  Who knows what size he wears but since I had to buy black (they come in grey, white and black) I just grabbed.  I felt like it was black Friday.

Then I ran and grabbed socks.  Why in the world are there so many different brands of socks?  Under Armor, Nike, Louisville slugger....Ugghh.....  We have black socks at home but they are football socks can there really be a difference?   From what the guy said at the store, the football sock is thicker than the baseball sock.  So I assume if we use his football socks it would get rather hot outside?  Ok, I'll buy the baseball socks.  So I pick up 2 and of course neither are his size.

I then had to buy a cup.  Oh geez.  Like I know which one of those to buy.  So I had to ask.  The guy pointed me over in the cup direction and said to get a peewee size.  So I grabbed a peewee size.  How cute.

Then I made my way over to the cleats.  There were kids trying on cleats everywhere.  Oh crap.  What size does Cody wear?  Are they cut big?  True to size?  Ughh....this little trip is harder than I expected.   So I just grabbed a pair of 13's and a pair of 1's.

So, out the door...2 pairs of cleats, 2 pair of socks, 4 pairs of pants,  and 1 cup.  Now, off to get my brows done.

I love going to Tina.  She started her own business out of her house and I enjoy going over and getting my brows done.  My goal is to get a hydrating facial too but today, my caterpillars need to get off my face and in return a beautifully groomed brow.

Made it to my appointment on time.  I would go more often but she lives near our old house which is approx 30 miles away and in this town...30 miles could be 30 min or 1+hours.  It's sad but true.

Afterward, I met up with my sister for lunch.  We had mexican.  Yummo!  We hung out a bit but I was so tired from being up so late last night that I had to get home.  On my way home wouldn't you know it, TRAFFIC.  Amazing!  It took me over 1 hour to get back to my house and by then, my day was done.

Off to PA

Cody and Ken went to PA this weekend and I got to stay home to catch up on some stuff.  Work has been extremely exhausting.  All I do is come home, tend to Cody and fall right asleep.  It's annoying and I'm not sure how much longer I can do this.

But Ken and Cody went to Grammy's house and it gave me time to just chill.  Unfortunately I have  errands to run, laundry to do but I made some time for myself.

Tonight I had my girlfriend Dana over for some girl talk and wine.  It was so nice just to giggle with her.  Why did I wait this long to do a girl night?

Snow watch

So last week the weather forecasters said we might get snow on Wednesday.  Fast forward to the weekend.  We might....turned to looks like we're going to have snow.  Fast forward to yesterday.  We're going to get snow but how much?  West of DC 4 -8 inches.  Ok, you've got my attention.  We're getting what?  Today....it was upgraded to maybe 6-12 inches.  Now I'm excited.

I'm not one who normally wishes for snow.  In fact those who know me, know I love the sun.  I prefer to be in shorts, tank tops, flip flops....  but this snow, I want.  I want it for several reasons:

1.  My little sweet Cody is dying to build a snowman and throw snowballs at me.  The weather forecasters said it should be a heavy wet snow so check and check.  Looks like Cody and I will be building our snowman and having a snowball fight.  Fun-fun!

2.  I'm so not loving my job and to potentially get the excuse to not go to work tomorrow gives me great happiness.  The fact that if it snows hard enough, work will shut down and I won't have to take leave.  But if it snows hard enough I might even get Thursday off too.  Being March, I don't expect snow so this may be a very pleasant surprise.

3.  I'm a kid at heart.  I remember the days of building snowmen and snow tunnels myself and I look forward to doing that with Cody.  In fact Ken and I bought a sled on clearance about 1 1/2 weeks ago.  Ken so didn't want to buy it, he thought it would be a waste of money but guess what???  Turns out we're going to use that sled tomorrow.  And that's what's going to make it special.  Laughter

4.  Photos, photos and more photos.  I love taking pictures and I must have some photos of our house in snow.  Didn't get any snow last year so bring it tomorrow.  Plus I have to take photos of Cody and some video footage.

So, the weather forecasters better not be playing a cruel joke on me, cause when I wake up tomorrow morning....I better see some snow.  :)

One year ago today I wrote an e-mail to all my friends and family that today was the last day of my radiation treatment.  Burned like crazy but happy as ever.  It's so hard to believe it's been a year.

My hair is driving me nuts!!!!

I don't know if my hair is growing to fast or if the winter weather is making it flat and dirty looking but I can not style it for the life of me.  Don't get me wrong.  I'm thrilled that my hair is growing and that it is as long as it is right now but I'm so frustrated with it right now that It's driving me NUTS!!!
Maybe I need to get new shampoo or styling products.  Maybe I need to get a fresh new haircut even though I had it trimmed a few weeks ago.  Or maybe I need a color or highlight? I don't know but whatever I need, I need to figure it out soon.

I'll post photos soon.  I promise!!!

Out on a Sunday night?

How is this possible?  I never go out.  But 2 of my dear friends invited me out to dinner and I couldn't say no.  Ken watched Cody as I darted out the door.  Picked up Rebecca and we headed to Reston to meet up with Jessica.  What a wonderful night.  Dinner was delicious!!!  And sharing laughs with the girls was definitely very therapeutic.  I think I need to do this more often.  I felt so relaxed and when the evening was over,  it didn't feel like a Sunday night.  So I really didn't get the chance to get crabby about work which is even better.
