19 months ago, Ken, Cody and I moved into our new house. 2 weeks later I found my lump, 2 weeks after that I was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer and the rest you all know is history.
We've been wanting to decorate our house but everything got put on hold when I got sick. But last week we found a set that worked perfect for our family room. I always get nervous when I buy furniture because in a showroom it looks like normal furniture. The "fake" rooms look so nice and 1/2 the time you get the stuff home and it doesn't look right. Initially I thought a sectional would look nice but Ken didn't want one so we compromised and ended up with the typical sofa and love seat.
Today we got it delivered and whoa-la, it's perfect. Thank goodness! I was actually a tad nervous but it worked out.
Now we have to accessorize. I just love that part of decorating. Makes me happy.

Snow, no snow, Snow? No Snow, SNOW?
The weather forecasters drive me nuts in the winter. I'm really not a big fan of snow but for Cody's sake, I wish we would get some so he can go out and play. Last year I was wishing for good weather. I couldn't miss 1 day of radiation and I didn't want the weather to ruin my perfect attendance. But this year, I'm healthy, so bring on the snow and let my little Cody build a tunnel.
So on Thursday we actually got snow. I went to bed late Wednesday night and happen to watch the weather. The weatherman said we were getting a one-two punch. A one-two what?? When did this come on the radar. I watch the weather all the time to plan my winter work wordrobe and this week, it's been chilly with highs in the low 20's. So I went to sleep only to wake up to SNOW in the morning. I was shocked. They actually got it right. Schools delays and closings were running across the screen of the tv. I wondered if Cody's preschool was open? Ken left for work and called me telling me that the roads were slick. Well I'm certainly not going to kill myself to get to work. Especially since Cody wasn't up to par.
Today, was day 2 or the one-two punch. I woke up today and there was nothing. The weather forecasters said it should show up for the evening rush hour. Oh brother....that's all I need. I took the long way to work today since it would be crazy to drive on snow covered back roads. The main roads would at least be clear. And they were. But the drive home wasn't too bad. The snow started coming down around 3pm. The commute home wasn't bad but the snow was definitely beginning to stick. I wasn't going to jump on the toll road but I thought, why drive 15 additional minutes to avoid the toll. Right when I got to my turn off the normal longer route was completely packed. Bumper to bumper so I decided, just pay and get home. Glad I did. Who knows how long it would take to get through that backup. I grabbed little Cody and settled in the house.
Spaghetti tonight - his favorite. By the time Ken got home, the snow was just about over. A fast moving system that came in and left. No major accumulation. But before we did call it a night, Cody got that one handful of snow in his hand and thrust it at me with all his might. He was so ready for that snowball fight. Don't worry, at the next snowfall.....game on.

1 year anniversary for radiation
Still tender but amazed that's it's been a year since I started radiation. I remember being really scared at first but once the 1st week was over I thought geez, this isn't so bad. The doctor said give it time, you'll soon feel the fatigue but I didn't think that would happen. Nor did I think I was going to get burned. Wrong and wrong. But today 1 year later, I'm happy that the entire process is over and I can only hope I never have to go through this ever again.

My tattoo's - 1 year anniversary
1 year ago today I got my 3 little tattoo's for radiation treatment. They are really small and I only notice them when I looking. So many milestones in one year. Let's just hope this one year turn into many more years of being cancer free so I never have to have chemo, surgery, radiation or cancer ever again.

In a world of pain
Last night I celebrated New Year's Eve alone. Well I wasn't alone until about 11:45pm. We invited our friend Rebecca over and had a nice dinner. We hung out and Cody was a little wild. Once he gets that way we realize he's tired and needs to go to bed. Normally he's in bed by 8pm but since Miss Rebecca was over we though he could hang out a bit. But he didn't make it past 9:30.
It's funny....I haven't gone out on New Years since 2004. I really have no desire to go out in VA. It's just to cold here. So we watched all the crazy people hanging out in NYC in 30 degree weather on TV. Although the company was awesome, slowly but surely we all started to fade away. Rebecca left at 11:30pm and Ken was out cold by 11:45. I thought geez, if I stayed up this late I might as well watch the ball drop. And I did.
So today as I'm enjoying every moment at home with Ken, Cody and my mom I've come to realize that this old dog can't stay up till midnight anymore and even though it was a quiet night at our house I'm in a world of pain today. I'm completely off my schedule and exhausted. I took a 10 min cat nap but it's just not enough. I'm off to bed to hopefully get a good night's rest.
